Notre Dame football came out with a massive 23-13 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night. In a game that a lot of people counted them out, The Irish came out on top with stellar defensive play and timely plays on offense.

As a part of that offensive performance, there was some good and some not so great. Instead of your traditional game balls, let’s hand out some “studs” and “duds” from the victory. There was a lot to be excited about on offense, and some that was also pretty concerning.

    STUDS

Here are the players who impressed the most for the Irish on Saturday night.

    QB Riley Leonard

The stat line isn’t going to jump out at you, accounting for 212 total yards on the night. If you watched the game, the former Duke signal caller made some of the biggest plays in the biggest moments of the game. The passing game will have to improve but one thing is certain, Leonard is going to make some big plays this season.

    RB Jeremiyah Love

Love was the dynamic weapon that the Irish, needed including making a big play on the go ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter. On the night, the St. Louis native rushed for 91 yards and a touchdowns, averaging an absurd 6.5 yards per carry. The dynamic element Is something that the Irish need.

    RB Jadarian Price

Love wasn’t the only big play weapon on the Notre Dame roster. Price actually had the biggest play of the night, rushing for 44 yards and a touchdown, while averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Price and Love have a chance to be one of the best running back duos in all of college football if they continue making plays.

    DUDS

Here are the players who didn’t stand out amongst their peers for the Irish on Saturday night.

    Wide receiver group

We had heard all offseason about how talented the wide receiver corp was, and how much improvement we have seen at that position. Outside of Beaux Collins, it was a less than stellar night. Kris Mitchell was barely targeted, as was the case with Jaden Greathouse. Coach Denbrock will need to get more out of the unit moving forward.

    Mike Denbrock

Notre Dame made big plays in some crucial moments on Saturday night, but it was a very average performance otherwise. For whatever reason, the Irish seemed complacent and more than okay with being passive and not taking many shots. It was frustrating at times.
