Chiefs rookie drops the hardest quote of Week 1 as practice for the Ravens officially gets underway

Kansas City Chiefs rookie LT Kingsley Suamataia is gearing up for his first-ever regular season game in the NFL. There he'll get his first career start , protecting the blindside of the best player in football.

As he gets prepped for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season , Suamataia was asked by media members what he saw from the Baltimore Ravens in film preparation. He stumbled upon a common theme that has been brought up by many players and coaches already: Physicality.

In doing so, he managed to drop one of the hardest quotes you'll hear in Week 1.

"They're a physical team, you know," Suamataia said of the Ravens. " They like playing the bully 'ball, but we've just got to play bully back and be the bigger bully to them. "

"Be the bigger bully" is a piece of good advice for Week 1, which is traditionally one of the tougher weeks of the season. Players have to truly increase their physicality after an offseason of practicing in a non-contact capacity against teammates during training camp, and with very little real action in the preseason.

"It's obviously different than the preseason versus the regular season, but I'm excited," Suamataia said. "Just to go out there with all the boys and be the bigger bully out there, like I said."

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes think Kingsley Suamataia is ready for the challenge

Not many rookie second-round draft picks are tasked with protecting the blind side of the best player in football after playing just 30 snaps of preseason football. Both Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, however, believe that Kingsley Suamataia is ready to get out there and perform at a high level.

"He had a good training camp, he had good preseason, but it's going to be learning experience for him here," Reid said of Suamataia. "This is a good defensive line, and he's gonna, I'm sure there'll be some ups and downs as he goes, like any young player has, but he's prepared himself, and it's time to go play now."

The Ravens will test the rookie, but Mahomes says he's got the confidence to match.

"He has the confidence he's going out there, and he's enjoying the moment," Mahomes said. "He's practicing hard. He's learned from the guys beside him. And so we're probably (playing against) the best defense in the league, other than our ours. So, I mean, it's just going out there and competing against the best of the best in Week 1. He's gonna get kind of introduced fast, and so I'm excited for him to accept the challenge and see where he's at. But he did a great job in the preseason. He did a great job in training camp, and I'm excited for him to go out there and accept that next challenge."

Week 1 will serve as an introduction to the expectations and challenges the team will face all season long. He got a taste of it during the preseason, but how he responds during the game will be the ultimate test.

"They've got great guys across the board," Suamataia said. "We're ready."
