Ja'Marr Chase pulls zero punches when answering question about beating Justin Jefferson

The Minnesota Vikings signed wide receiver Justin Jefferson to a massive contract extension this June and it spurned the next wave of contract extensions. We saw Ceedee Lamb, Tyreek Hill and Brandon Aiyuk get extensions afterward but nobody has beaten him.

The one player who could beat Jefferson's deal is his former college teammate at LSU in Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase. He spoke to reporters on Friday morning about his contract and the request to beat Jefferson's contract by one penny. Needless to say, he didn't hold back any punches.

Vikings should be grateful for Justin Jefferson's process

Those were some harsh words from Chase but were they meant to be? The two are great friends and Chase made jokes about Jefferson coming to play with him in Cincinnati. This is a real camaraderie between the two, but the words also show a difference in their process.

On Thursday afternoon, Jefferson was asked about his contract and how he went about negotiations.

"It was for my teammates to really not show that I'm all about the money and all about contract and just kind of just being about myself. That's not something that, you know, I grew up on. It's not something that I wanted my teammates to have over my name. So just being here, being around, having a smile on my face and wanting to come to work every single day, even when I didn't have that contract. I knew that contract was going to come whenever it comes, and I wasn't going to let that stop me from coming out here and and then making greatness and great. So the people that needs to handle that, handle it, and whatever I need to do on this football field, that's what I got to do."

That is the exact opposite approach to how Chase has handled things. Jefferson was very intentional on how he handled the process of getting his contract and kept away from being any sort of distraction. Chase on the other hand has been anything but.

The Vikings are lucky to have someone like Jefferson who keeps the drama to a minimum, as all of the contract drama came from other sources outside of the situation.
