The Green Bay Packers have made their short-term decision at quarterback, but the overall situation to replace Jordan Love is fluid. The starter is expected to miss three to four games with an MCL injury.

According to Jay Glazer on Fox, backup Malik Willis will be the starter in week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. He was acquired from the Tennessee Titans two weeks ago, right before final roster cuts.

Sean Clifford is on the practice squad and could serve as the backup.

The idea of playing so early after a trade might not be ideal, but Willis is used to changes. He's had three different offensive coordinators in his time with the Titans.

"It is what it is and just being able to adapt has really made me," Willis said after being acquired by Green Bay. "Not proud (of it), but definitely leaning on that and continuing to just grind and work hard and continuing to let things play out how they're supposed to."

Willis mentioned he's ready to "do whatever I can to help this organization and this team."

    Veteran route

Even though Malik Willis will be the starter next week, it doesn't mean he has secured a longer shot. According to Diana Russini, from The Athletic, the Packers have reached out to veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who has played for the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans. He is still available in free agency and ready to return if a good opportunity presents itself.

Tannehill knows the basics of the system because when the Titans acquired him from the Dolphins in 2019, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith ran a version of Matt LaFleur's system with the Titans in 2018.

When LaFleur got hired by the Packers, Smith was promoted from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator to keep the core ideas.

However, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported later than the Packers have not reached out to any veteran quarterback.

Ryan Tannehill is 36 years old. Last season, he started eight games and played 10 for the Titans, finishing the year with four touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 78.5 passer rating — the worst number since Tannehill's rookie year in 2012.
