Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Week 1 win over Washington Commanders may have come at a huge cost

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 1-0 thanks to its season-opening win over the Washington Commanders. Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin dominated a struggling Washington secondary and the defense held rookie Jayden Daniels and the rest of the offense, as Tampa notched a 37-21 win.

Unfortunately, the win may have come at a pretty big cost. Per WFLA's Kenny Morales, Bucs' All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr., was seen in a walking boot after the game.

It's unclear what the injury is and if the boot is just a precaution or what, but there's not much grey area when a boot is involved. Either it's a precaution or something that will take time to heal. It's certainly something to monitor and it's yet another blow after the Bucs suffered more concrete injuries during the game, especially in the secondary.

Starting cornerback Zyon McCollum was ruled out of the game in the first half with a concussion and his backup, Bryce Hall, was carted off the field with his leg in an air cast later during the game. The Bucs eventually declared his injury to be an ankle and he's definitely going to miss a chunk of time, if not the whole season.

And, on top of those injuries, the Bucs were already down three defensive linemen heading into the game: former first-rounder Calijah Kancey, Earnest Brown IV, and Logan Hall. Kancey and Hall are starters, obviously.

Fortunately, the Bucs didn't suffer any injuries on offense and came out clean on that side of things. We'll hopefully get an idea regarding Winfield Jr. and others when Bucs head coach Todd Bowles speaks with the media on Monday.
