IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) – A driver was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Imperial Beach that left a woman dead late Wednesday night.

San Diego County sheriff’s officials said the fatal crash happened at around 11 p.m. in the 1100 block of Connecticut Street, near Imperial Beach Boulevard.

Deputies responding to the incident arrived to find a female pedestrian with serious injuries lying on the ground. Despite life-saving measures performed by paramedics, the unidentified woman was declared dead at the scene.

According to sheriff’s officials, “Deputies learned a red Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing pin stripe seen leaving the area was likely involved in the collision.”

With help from the sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter, deputies located the car suspected in the collision in the 700 block of Oneonta Avenue.

The owner/driver of the Camaro, identified as 62-year-old Eric Cox, was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail on charges of manslaughter, felony driving under the influence with injury, and felony hit-and-run with great bodily injury/death.

Anyone with information on the crash can contact the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation at 619-498-2400.
