ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Odessa Fire Rescue continued battling a fire in northwest Odessa Wednesday night and said more fires are possible over the next 30 days.

According to the City, crews responded to the area of 81 st Street and West County Road around 9:00 p.m. on July 31 after a small fire broke out in a warehouse on the northeast corner of the property. Crews smothered the fire with a 1,000-gallon tank of water and gained control of the fire; however, OFR said it expects to respond to the location for the next month or so to continue putting out hotspots as they occur.

The initial fire at Permian Basin Containers, located at 8100 N West County Road, began on July 23; OFR crews remained on the scene for hours battling the fire as nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. In the aftermath, residents have reported a strong chemical smell in the area and have been advised not to drink the water until cleanup efforts have been completed and private water wells have been tested .
