( WJET/WFXP ) – A Pennsylvania man was sentenced to over six years in prison for unlawfully having firearms in his possession.

Eric K. Hubbard, 41, of Beaver Falls, will be imprisoned for 77 months followed by three years of supervised release after an Aug. 8 announcement.

According to court documents, a New Brighton Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on Hubbard as he was traveling on May 23, 2023, where the officer noticed an open container, the odor of alcohol and a black satchel bag inside the vehicle.

When Hubbard was asked to step out of the vehicle, he sped away from police and was pursued. Officers located Hubbard’s crashed car later on and took him into custody after spotting Hubbard hiding in the brush near the Beaver River.

The black satchel was also recovered and contained three pill bottles with Hubbard’s name as well as a loaded revolver.

Then on July 14 of that same year, another traffic stop was conducted on Hubbard’s vehicle by the Beaver Falls Police Department. Officers were aware of Hubbard’s previous traffic stop but also discovered Hubbard was driving with a suspended license and in a rental vehicle that he was not on the rental agreement.

Police noticed contraband in Hubbard’s vehicle which prompted a search in which police found three black ski masks, three pairs of black gloves, a loaded 12 gauge shotgun with a cut stock and a loaded semiautomatic rifle.

At the time Hubbard had the weapons and ammo in his possession, he was convicted of seven felony offenses. Federal law states it is illegal for any convicted felon to possess a firearm or ammunition.

The New Brighton Police Department, Beaver Falls Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were commended for their investigation leading to this case.
