    13 people rescued from ‘island’ in Provo River

    PROVO, Utah ( ABC4 ) — Thirteen people were rescued from a small landmass in the Provo River today, Aug. 17, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office .

    The 13 individuals were stuck on an “island” in the Provo River, about a half-mile east of Vivian Park, according to Sgt. Spencer Cannon, UCSO.

    WEATHER ALERT: Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued throughout Utah

    The group was reportedly floating the river in tubes and ended up stuck in the middle of the river.

    “Firefighters ended up walking out to them in shin deep water and walking them back,” Cannon said.
