SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — SLCPD officers arrested nine people during a drug enforcement operation in Salt Lake City on Thursday, according to Salt Lake City Police .

The goal of the operation was to “identify, locate, and arrest” drug dealers, traffickers, and buyers along the Jordan River Trail and North Temple Street, according to a press release from SLCPD.

Officers reportedly arrested nine people and seized counterfeit fentanyl pills, drug paraphernalia, and alcohol being illegally consumed in public. The Utah Dept. of Corrections Adult Probation and Parole also contributed to this operation.

In Oct. 2023, SLCPD ramped up enforcement along the Jordan River Trail and neighboring communities to address criminal activity in the area. Officers reportedly conduct hourly patrols along the Jordan River Trail, the Folsom Trail, and North Temple Street to “disrupt criminal activity, make arrests, and reduce victimization,” the release states.

SLCPD said they recognize this effort needs a “multi-disciplinary approach,” and began coordinating with city, regional, and state agencies to address concerns along the Jordan River Trail.

“Weekly strategy meetings with law enforcement and other stakeholders continue,” SLCPD said. “Future law enforcement operations are expected.”
