    Hammond girls win state Class D title; Sackets Harbor reaches final

    WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Hammond girls basketball finished off another Devil of a season with its second straight New York State title at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

    Hammond topped Section 2’s Northville, 54-34, thanks to 29 points and 20 rebounds from tournament MVP Landree Kenyon. She scored 11 points in the third quarter to help the team pull away.

    The Red Devils won back-to-back state championships for the second time in school history. Hammond also won two consecutive titles in 2007 and 2008.

    Ava Howie also earned a spot on the Class D all-tournament team. Hailey Monroe netted 12 points in the loss for Northville.

    In the boys Class D final, Sackets Harbor mounted a late charge, but fell short to Section 2’s North Warren, 68-66.

    Austin Griner led the Patriots with 28 points. North Warren built a 13-point lead, but Sackets Harbor cut into the lead and gave itself a chance to win.

    Sackets Harbor finished the season as 25-2 after reaching its second state final in program history.
