Your Stories Q&A: Why has construction work come to a halt on new restaurant near Bridgeport?

CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – You ask, we answer!

Some of our viewers have asked for an update on a new restaurant being built off Route 31 in the Town of Cicero, near Bridgeport.

We first told you back in April, that a restaurant called Flavours is being built.

Owner Diane Mata, described Flavours’ style as grandma’s home-cooking comfort food. The menu will include steaks, chops, burgers, pot roast, and a few Dominican dishes, which is a nod to Mata’s husband, Santo, who is Dominican.

But right now, nothing is cooking due to construction delays.

Mata said they’re at a “complete standstill,” as they try to book a qualified electrician and plumber for the project.

She said the job is either too big for smaller contractors or larger companies are booked. Mata said once one worker becomes available, another contractor they need has a conflict with the schedule, resulting in them not being able to take the job.

This problem is not unique. As the Your Stories Team looks to answer questions about projects in our viewing area, we often hear from developers about the delays in construction and utility work.

While the restaurant waits for electrical and plumbing work, Mata said she’s hopeful crews can soon start installing windows and doors. She said site work outside has also come to a standstill.

Mata was hoping to open Flavours this fall, but that won’t be the case with the current delays.

Those living in the Bridgeport area will likely have to wait until 2025 to try the comfort food. Mata said it would take a miracle for them to be open this year.

She knows that people are, “chomping at the bit” for them to open. They are too.

We’ll keep you updated on an opening date!
