An evacuation order was issued for a brush fire in the Angeles National Forest above Glendora that sent a large plume of smoke into the air Friday afternoon.The Fork Fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Glendora Mountain and East Fork roads. It was initially estimated at about five to 10 acres, but by 4 p.m., it was reported at 75 acres and went to a second alarm as more ground and air resources were dispatched to the scene.As of Saturday morning, the fire has scorched 330 acres, according to fire officials.East Fork Road was closed from Highway 39 to Glendora Mountain Road.The National Weather Service reported temperatures in the mid-80s near the fire with relatively light winds gusting to 12 mph.It's unclear what sparked the blaze.Fire officials said that a night-flying firefighting helicopter will be working throughout the night.City News Service contributed to this report.

Massive fire in downtown LA destroys 2 buildings, injures firefighter
A massive fire that broke out Friday morning near a storage area in downtown Los Angeles destroyed two buildings, damaged several others and even sent a firefighter to the hospital.Fire crews responded to the area near Kohler and E 7th streets, close to the Fashion District, just after 2 a.m. The fire was so big, it quickly spread to several nearby buildings."Firefighters used ladder pipes, large-diameter hand lines and portable monitors to keep persistent water flow on the fire," said the Los Angeles Fire Department in an update. "Ultimately, it took over 170 firefighters 5 hours and 15 minutes to extinguish the flames."One firefighter sustained a knee injury and was sent to a local hospital in fair condition.No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Armed man tries to kidnap girl near school in South Los Angeles
A man tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint Tuesday near a school in South Los Angeles, police say.The girl fought off her attacker and managed to get away.The girl and her mother spoke to Eyewitness News to recount the terrifying ordeal.She was outside near Figueroa Street elementary school Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. Suddenly a man came up to her and put his hand around her neck.She fought back by hitting him with her cellphone and she ran away.Police say the suspect had a gun and they are treating the incident as an attempted kidnapping.The teen's mother, who also didn't want to be identified, says she thanks God her youngest daughter was able to defend herself and get away.
