San Jose woman killed in wrong-way crash ID'd; witness describes seeing truck speeding

One of two victims who died in a wrong-way crash in San Jose on Monday has been identified.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner has identified the 47-year-woman as Rebecca Joanne Olsen of San Jose.

The 14-year-old boy who was also killed has not been ID'd, yet.

Video shared with ABC7 on Tuesday showed the moments a Toyota Tacoma traveling several minutes in the wrong direction on Highway 85 in San Jose before the woman and teen in a Tesla were fatally hit on Monday.

Two people died in a wrong-way crash on State Route 85 in San Jose on Monday, the California Highway Patrol said.

An email was sent to families at the school the teenage boy attended.

It stated that he was in 9th grade and that his family said he was happy at the school he only got to attend for a short time.

Officials say the driver of the truck was a 39-year-old man from Florida, who was hospitalized with major injuries.

Witness describes seeing pickup truck speeding before fatal crash

There is new cellphone video of the truck going the wrong way, recorded on Monday by Normi Juarez who had just picked up her son from school.

"I'm driving 65 or 70 in the express lane but the truck is more faster - 90 or more than 90," said Juarez.

CHP hasn't said how fast the driver was going but you can see in the dash cam video above that he whizzed right by other vehicles going the opposite way and eventually crashing into a Tesla.

"Second-degree murder is not off the table at this point. A lot is going to come down to the toxicology results that we will receive later. Were there any prescription drugs? Were alcohol or street drugs in his system at the time of this crash?"

That's legal analyst Steven Clark who says they'll also look at this driver's criminal history. Initial online records show he has previously been convicted of a DUI in Florida.

"What investigators are going to want to know is, what was his mindset at the time of this driving? They're going to want to talk with people who were with him that day. Was there something going on in his life that could suggest that perhaps this was intentional? That he deliberately drove the wrong way on this freeway at this time," said Clark.

As bad as this crash was, Juarez says it could have been worse as other drivers dodged the pickup.

"So it nearly hit the cars? The three cars before the crash?" said ABC7 News reporter J.R. Stone to which Juarez replied, "Yes, before."

Officers also confirm that the pickup truck driver had been going the wrong way for more than 10 minutes. Many people online are very concerned about that.

"It's a legitimate question to ask whether there was some law enforcement component that could have interceded more quickly," said Clark.

CHP says that at last check, the suspect is still alive and in the hospital.

The CHP said it is still investigating why the driver was going the wrong way and where he came from on the freeway.

The CHP asks any witnesses to please come forward.
