Many entrepreneurs aspire to assist businesses in overcoming issues. However, NYC-based Bandana has a different aim. The organization intends to help low-income people find jobs with better salaries, benefits, and proximity to home to reduce commute time.

The company announced today that it had raised an additional $8.5 million, bringing the total amount raised to $12,3 million.

Tim Makalinao, CEO and co-founder of the startup told us about it this way when we talked to him last year, around the time the firm announced its seed funding:

Basically, we want to build a platform that helps the American working class get back on its feet by making it easy for them to find better jobs and, therefore, better long-term living conditions.

Website With Job Postings And a Map

That has turned into a website with job postings and a map showing jobs by area so people don't have to travel too far to get to work. The website shows the location on a map, the pay range, the amount of money the worker will get after taxes, and a thorough description of the job.

Even though its goal is to help others, it is still a business with success goals, just like any other new business. Makalinao told TechCrunch that since we last talked, the most important thing is that we launched Bandana.com, which was a huge success.

Every day, the site has between 18,000 and 25,000 jobs listed. Since it opened, more than 150,000 people looking for work in New York City have gone straight to the site. They've been able to get this much traffic with almost no advertising. "More than 130k of those 150k workers found our new platform on their own, without any advertisment," he said. He says that between 10,000 and 15,000 people have jobs through the site so far.
