Ohio highway patrol reports 16 fatalities over July 4 weekend
COLUMBUS — Sixteen people died in 15 traffic crashes over the holiday weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Monday. Statewide, 648 traffic crashes occurred during the holiday reporting period of July 3 through July 7, the patrol said. Failure to wear seat belts was a factor in seven of nine deaths where belts were available, it added. Troopers also made 438 arrests for impaired driving and 72 for drug-related charges and issued nearly 3,000 safety belt and child safety seat citations.
New Wilson football factory, company's commitment to Ohio celebrated
ADA, Ohio — Although temperatures were in the mid-80s on Monday, Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted was outside throwing around a Wilson football with members of Ada High School's football team. Mr. Husted was joined by the Ada community to celebrate the new Wilson football factory, which produces the balls used in the National Football League. Wilson has occupied factory space in Ada since 1955, but in May, 2023, the company broke ground on a new facility that would end up becoming twice the former factory’s size. “When we heard the opportunity to help secure an investment in this facility and make sure that the future of footballs in America’s game are made right here, we knew we had to step up and do our part,” Mr. Husted said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Legislation designed to crack down on thefts of catalytic converters is motoring ahead through the Ohio General Assembly. House Bill 328, which passed the Ohio House 93-2 late last month, would enact stricter state penalties for those who buy or sell stolen catalytic converters. It would also create new reporting requirements for scrap metal dealers and others who buy the anti-pollution devices.
