Aberdeen Central High School speech and debate coach Kerry Konda has been named the 2024 Coach of the Year by the the National Speech & Debate Association. Kerry Konda was presented the award by his student and Student of the Year finalist Breanna Wollman during the 2024 Donus D. Roberts Diamond and Specialty Awards Assembly during the National Speech & Debate Tournament on June 20 in Des Moines. The event is named for the former Watertown High School speech and debate coach.

ABERDEEN, SD (Press Release) HOLIDAY GARBAGE CHANGE: Due to the 4th of July Holiday observance on Thursday, July 4th, and Friday, July 5th, City garbage and recycling pick-up will change. Residents who normally have their garbage picked up on Thursday are asked to have their garbage out for pick-up by 7:00 AM, Wednesday, July 3rd. Residents who normally have their garbage picked up on Friday are asked to have their garbage out for pick-up by 7:00 AM, Monday, July 8th. Both Wednesday’s and Thursday’s garbage will be picked up on Wednesday and both Friday’s and Monday’s garbage will be picked up on Monday. Dependable Sanitation will be picking up both Thursday’s and Friday’s recycling on Friday.

Nearly 200 cities, counties and tribes across South Dakota will collectively receive $500,000 in grants to eliminate mosquitoes and prevent the spread of West Nile Virus. The state Department of Health selected grant recipients based on factors such as the population of the applying jurisdiction and its history of human WNV cases through 2023. Every community that applied for funding received some, with amounts ranging from $500 to $20,000.
