BOSTON – A federal judge sentenced an Abington man to five years in prison for conspiring to distribute oxycodone pills.

Kenneth Veiga, 32, was sentenced June 18 by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper to 60 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the U.S. attorney's office said in a news release Tuesday .

In April 2024, Veiga pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone pills.

Between November 2022 and May 2023, communications intercepted by authorities revealed that Veiga and others were involved in an oxycodone drug trafficking organization, prosecutors said.

During a search of Veiga’s previous residence in July 2023, oxycodone pills, a Polymer80 9mm pistol and nine rounds of ammunition were seized. Fentanyl pills, oxycodone pills and about $58,000 were seized during a separate search of Veiga’s current apartment.

Officers from seven Cape Cod local police departments − Barnstable, Dennis, Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee, Yarmouth and Sandwich − and the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office assisted federal and state authorities in the investigation, which was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces operation.
