The lowrider is, perhaps, Española’s most unique form of artistic and cultural expression. “Faith and culture. It’s what we say all the time,” explained Joan Medina, owner of Lowlow’s Lowrider Art Place and president of the Española Lowrider Association. “The lowrider really is art on wheels. To me, the car is one big canvas. If there’s something that I like, I’m going to put it on my car.”

Moving Arts Looking for New Home
Moving Arts Española needs a new space. “We’ve known for some time that, one day, the lease would be up,” Co-founder and Creative Director Roger Montoya said. The lease on the organization’s current location on the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo came up for renewal in 2024. According to Montoya, the Tsay Corporation has deemed the building unsafe and too old to inhabit.
