Flooding Latest Test For Farmers, Government Officials
(KNSI) – State and federal officials say the Minnesota River is cresting, and the Mississippi River near St. Paul will reach its highwater mark this weekend. That is allowing them to move into evaluating the scope of flood damages. Both ends of the state have been hit, and an application for federal disaster relief is pending. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy tells KNSI News that the state was well prepared from a financial standpoint.

The mighty Mississippi River is extra mighty this spring. With high levels downstream and rushing water upstream, it’s a hazard for many communities. Steve Reckers, who records weather data for the National Weather Service, said he measured 5.6 inches of rain for June in New Hope. That’s close to the normal June rainfall total of 4.75 inches, but he added that storms were spotty throughout the metro this month.
Floodwaters and bird flu continue to rise in Minnesota, COVID remains low
Flood waters continue to rise in Minnesota rivers, especially in the southern portion of the state, due to sustained heavy rainfall this month. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources noted that the recent round of storms from June 15 to 22 led to nine-day precipitation totals between four and 11 inches across southern Minnesota, and between four and seven inches across the northeastern part of the state. Typical monthly precipitation for all of June tends to fall between three and five inches.
Minnesota National Guard will provide security at Republican National Convention
(KNOX) – Governor Tim Walz has authorized the Minnesota National Guard to provide public safety support for the 2024 Republican National Convention. The convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 through July 18. It’s been designated as a national special security event by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security due to the scale of security operations required.

The first mention of Paul Bunyan and his trusty bovine Babe the Blue Ox appears to originate in the late 19th century at a logging camp. Historian Michael Edmonds, author of Out of the Northwoods, reasoned that veteran loggers would tell these tales to prank the younger workers.
