RAGBRAI to Make Way Through Greenfield Tomorrow
The biggest bicycling event for the state of Iowa is underway. Tomorrow, the bicyclists taking part in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will make their way through Adair County, with Greenfield being the midday stop. The route through Greenfield has changed since the city was originally chosen as a stop, allowing bicyclists to tour through areas that were in the path of the May 21st tornado that devastated a mile long stretch of the town in a minute.
Wachholtz and Ballard honored by Governor for volunteerism
Paula Wachholtz of Panora and Cathy Ballard of Guthrie Center were honored June 25 during the annual Iowa 2024 Governor’s Volunteer Awards ceremony. The two were among more than 400 Iowans similarly honored. This was the 40thyear of the awards program. Individuals and groups were honored, and length of service awards were also given.
Panora City Council to Discuss Temporary Storage Containers
The Panora City Council will meet in regular session Monday. The Council will consider for approval the second reading of an ordinance adding a chapter on portable storage containers to City Code, a resolution allowing possession and consumption of alcohol in designated areas for events during Panorama Days and a request to utilize a hydrant or firetruck to fill a dunk tank at Michael Mills Park during Panorama Days. They will also discuss the city being the fiscal agent for the Panora Chamber’s Main Street audio project, merit increases for two city employees, the 2024 Southeast Load Transfer Electric project and an emergency medical services first responder transport agreement.

Guthrie Center City Council to Reschedule Public Hearing on Sale of City Owned Property
The Guthrie Center City Council will meet in regular session Monday. The Council will consider for approval fencing permits for the 100 block of North 12th Street and the 900 block of North 13th Street, and appoint Lacquerisha Hall as a Library Board Member for Mary J Barnett Memorial Library. They will also consider for approval a housing project from Mark and Derrik Bauer of Tri-County Lumber, reschedule a public hearing for the proposed sale of real estate to August 12th, and consider for approval a resolution authorizing the destruction of certain records per Iowa Code. City Clerk Kris Arrasmith will then provide information on mowing at the Alliant sub-station in the City Hall report. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.
