I first became interested in journalism because of two reasons: my love for writing and politics. The thought of writing stories about important issues that have a big impact on my community and the world around me sounds perfect, so when I first heard about the High School Journalism Institute, I started filling out the application as fast as I possibly could.

PHS Shining Stars to host kids dance camp Aug. 8-10
The Philomath High School’s Shining Stars dance team will host a kids dance camp on Aug. 8-10, the program announced. The camp will be for all kids ages 4-14 and take place at PHS from 8-10 a.m. on all three days. Participants will learn stretching, dance technique, dance routines, play games and build friendships and community.

Oregon State University's Lane County Extension offers nutrition education and outreach program
EUGENE, Ore. – A local program could help shoppers save money on their next trip to the grocery store. Oregon State University runs a nutrition education and outreach program at its Lane County Extension. The program provides nutrition education to thousands of limited income youth, families, and adults and, by using research-based strategies, the program works to help people make the healthy choice… the easy choice. Food preserver Nadine Kellie said that there’s a number of classes coming up soon to give the public opportunities to learn practical skills that can translate into savings at the grocery store. Some of these classes including a fermenting course in August along with canning classes for salsas and proteins in November, said Kellie.
