Dump truck crash snags busy roadway in Chicago's western suburbs 01:07

ADDISON, Ill. (CBS) -- A driver was injured after a dump truck rolled over on Route 53 in west suburban Addison Friday afternoon.

The Addison Fire Protection District was called at 2:24 p.m. to Rohlwing Road (Route 53) and Armitage Avenue.

A five-axle gravel hauler semi-trailer truck was found on its side at the scene, the fire protection district said. The truck had rolled onto the driver's side—leaving the driver pinned, the fire protection district said.

The guardrail along the side of the road also got wrapped around the truck, which lost its load.

The rescue was made with the help of a tow truck to relieve pressure. Part of the guardrail the truck hit also had to be cut away for the rescue.

The driver of the truck was extricated at 4:16 p.m., the fire protection district said. The driver was conscious and alert, and was talking to paramedics the whole time, the fire protection district said.

The truck driver was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove by a Superior medical emergency helicopter.

A car was also involved in the accident, and its driver was treated and released at the scene.

Both Addison and Lombard police were on the scene after the crash—with Lombard police blocking off Old Route 53 at North Avenue about a mile south of the crash site.

Addison police were investigating late Friday.
