GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Voters in five of the nine districts that make up the Genesee County Board of Commissioners have decisions to make in the Aug. 6 primary election. There is no primary competition in District 4 (incumbent Democrat James Avery and Republican challenger John C. Wellington), District 5 (incumbent Republican Shaun Shumaker and Democrat challenger Donna Anderson), District 7 (incumbent Democrat Martin L. Cousineau and Republican challenger Lutullus Penton), and District 1, where incumbent Democrat Delrico J. Loyd has no opponent in the primary or general election.

Detroit police seek missing 57-year-old man last seen July 2
DETROIT – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 57-year-old man with a mental illness. According to authorities, Kalvia Davidson was last seen July 2 on East Lafayette Street, just north of Chene Street. Police said he left the home at about 6:30 a.m. and has not since returned.

Port Huron to Mackinac Race comes to an end
Sailboats are crossing the finish line up at Mackinac Island as the 100th Bayview Mackinac Race begins to wind down. The race got off to a slow start, being delayed nearly two hours Saturday due to lack of wind on lower Lake Huron. Wind conditions changed later in the day, giving a boost to some of the larger and faster boats in the race. The first to cross the finish line was Wizard in Class A shortly after 1pm Sunday. The leader for much of the race was Maverick, who also won the Chicago to Mackinac Race, but had to withdraw due to a mast failure. As of Monday morning, much of the fleet was in a line between Mackinac Island and Rogers City. The remaining boats are expected to finish Monday afternoon.

20-year-old Detroit man part of moving crew dies after jumping off boat into Oakland County lake
(CBS DETROIT) - A 20-year-old Detroit man drowned while swimming in an Oakland County lake over the weekend, officials said. The man was part of a crew that was helping a resident move. The victim, identified as Marsalis Quintin Carter, allegedly jumped off the side of a pontoon boat into Taylor Lake in Rose Township Saturday morning and did not resurface. The lake is located off Hickory Ridge Road.Carter, who lists residences in Detroit and Tuskegee, Alabama, was pronounced dead after an over 13-hour search, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
