MELVINDALE, Mich. (FOX 2) - While on duty on Sunday, Melvindale police officer Mohamed Said was fatally shot. He was 23-year-old. "We as a community will always honor the sacrifice he made, protecting and serving our residents with unwavering courage and commitment to Melvindale," said the city's mayor, Nicole Shkira, during a press conference on Monday.

20-year-old Detroit man part of moving crew dies after jumping off boat into Oakland County lake
(CBS DETROIT) - A 20-year-old Detroit man drowned while swimming in an Oakland County lake over the weekend, officials said. The man was part of a crew that was helping a resident move. The victim, identified as Marsalis Quintin Carter, allegedly jumped off the side of a pontoon boat into Taylor Lake in Rose Township Saturday morning and did not resurface. The lake is located off Hickory Ridge Road.Carter, who lists residences in Detroit and Tuskegee, Alabama, was pronounced dead after an over 13-hour search, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The satellite imagery shows smoke, and our weather models show it’s coming our way. The upper-air flow has changed a touch over the past week. This different upper-air flow is going to bring air from western Canada overhead of Michigan in the next week. That area of Canada has large wildfires going now.
Maumee citizens attempt to put sewer issue before the voters
A Maumee resident has notified city officials of her intention to place a referendum on the November ballot to repeal Maumee’s sewer inspection and remediation ordinance. A veteran Lucas County Commissioner, meanwhile, called on the city’s leaders to hold off on enforcing the controversial ordinance so other solutions to Maumee’s sewage management can be explored. And during a Maumee City Council meeting Monday evening, Mayor Jim MacDonald proposed creating a sewer grants fund to assist affected homeowners financially. The notice of a citizens’ initiative seeking to overturn the ordinance was filed with Maumee city officials at 1:21 p.m. Monday. Its text reads: “Ordinance No. 020-2024, as adopted on June 17, 2024, is hereby repealed in its entirety, including the adoption of codified ordinance sections 1390.01 through 1390.99.”
