Fort Lewis College (FLC) in Durango, Colorado, has awarded three Katz School of Business Endowed Professorships. These professorships, funded by the Katz family, will support faculty members in leading community projects. The faculty members are expected to contribute significantly to FLC's research and education, and positively affect the Durango community.

Liz Cartier, PhD, an associate professor of Management, is the first recipient. She will research the business of water in the Durango region. Her work will examine the dependency on water and explore water-related businesses. Cartier will also study the changing nature of business due to recent water fluctuations and propose ideas for water conservation and sustainability.

The second recipient, Tomasz Miaskiewicz, PhD, an associate professor of Marketing, will work on artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. His plans include community workshops on AI, a program for AI-related project assistance, and a project to build AI assistants for classes. Miaskiewicz also plans to start a new AI and no-code development club at FLC with students.

Ivan G. Guardiola, PhD, chair and professor of Management, is the third recipient. He will develop micro-credentials in Business Intelligence, a set of strategies and technologies used by businesses for information analysis and management. Guardiola's professorship will support him in developing micro-credentials covering key business intelligence computing skills.

Melissa Mount, vice president for Advancement and CEO of the Fort Lewis College Foundation, stated that the professorships will improve students’ academic experience at FLC. The Katz School of Business Dean, Steven Elias, thanked Marc and Jane Katz for their contribution, stating that the professorships highlight the quality of Fort Lewis College's faculty members.
