Aditya Roy from South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy came second, and Marilyn Beltran, also from Stillman Middle School, came third. These students will now compete in the National Civics Bee® State Competition on June 15th in Dallas, Texas.

    Esmeralda Villarreal, President & CEO of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, expressed satisfaction at hosting the third annual local competition. She acknowledged the dedication of the participants and looked forward to the state level competition.

    The competition was judged by Consul Judith Marcia Arrieta Munguia from the Mexican Consulate in Brownsville, Ben Peña from Burton McCumber & Longoria, and Jovanna Rangel from the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation. Adam Cardona of Bechtel Energy hosted the event, which included a keynote address by Helen Ramirez, AICP, City Manager of the City of Brownsville.

    The National Civics Bee® Local Competition in Brownsville, TX was sponsored by Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railway (OmniTrax), Brownsville Independent School District, Lit Fiber - BTX, and the Port of Brownsville (Brownsville Navigation District). Event partners included POP-i Ice Cream, Stemtree of Brownsville, and Sylvan Learning Center.
