Aditya Roy from South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy came in second, and Marilyn Beltran, also from Stillman Middle School, placed third. These students will compete in the National Civics Bee® State Competition on June 15th in Dallas, Texas.

    Esmeralda Villarreal, President & CEO of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, expressed satisfaction with the third annual local competition. She commended the students' dedication and knowledge and looked forward to their participation at the state level.

    Judges for the competition included Consul Judith Marcia Arrieta Munguia from the Mexican Consulate in Brownsville, Ben Peña from Burton McCumber & Longoria, and Jovanna Rangel from the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation. Adam Cardona of Bechtel Energy emceed the event, with a keynote address by Helen Ramirez, City Manager of Brownsville.

    The National Civics Bee® Local Competition was sponsored by Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railway (OmniTrax), Brownsville Independent School District, Lit Fiber - BTX, and the Port of Brownsville (Brownsville Navigation District). Event partners were POP-i Ice Cream, Stemtree of Brownsville, and Sylvan Learning Center.
