Surry Community College (SCC) has achieved 100 percent pass rates on first-time state licensure examinations in multiple disciplines. At the SCC Spring 2024 Faculty/Staff meeting, SCC President Dr. David Shockley and the SCC Board of Trustees recognized several program directors for this achievement.

Jim McHone, Director of Law Enforcement Training and Director of Center for Public Safety, along with Barry VanHoy, BLET Qualified Assistant / Law Enforcement Training Coordinator, received four resolutions. These acknowledgments were for the perfect pass rates in the Detention Officer Training Program and the Basic LIDAR and RADAR Operator Certification courses.

The Detention Officer Training Program reported perfect pass rates for the classes of May 2023, November 2023, and February 2024. Similarly, the Basic LIDAR Operator Certification classes of May 2023 and April 2024, and the Basic RADAR Operator Certification class of October 2023, all achieved 100 percent pass rates. This marks the seventh consecutive year of perfect results for the Detention Officer Training Program.

Dr. Doug Underwood, Director of Emergency Medical Programs and Director of the Yadkin Center, accepted two resolutions for the Emergency Medical Services programs. These programs also achieved 100 percent pass rates for first-time test takers in the Paramedic Certification Testing for both the Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician Day Classes.
