    Aiken County, Strom Thurmond jamborees usher in return of high school football

    Aiken High and Barnwell started the week on the same field for a scrimmage, and Friday they'll be back at it at different locations for jamborees.     Friday night lights return this week to the Aiken Standard coverage area in the form of high school football jamborees, with the regular season to begin next week.

    There will be two jamborees played within the area - the Aiken County Jamboree is at South Aiken, while Strom Thurmond is also hosting its own jamboree.

    The Aiken County Jamboree is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday and will feature six teams.

    Silver Bluff will face McCormick in the first quarter, Aiken will play Wagener-Salley in the second quarter and host South Aiken will face Ridge Spring-Monetta in the third.

    Tickets are $9 and can be purchased online at https://tinyurl.com/4h4vnz34.

    Jamboree action at Strom Thurmond High School is also scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, with six teams in action.

    Up first is a matchup between Barnwell and Saluda, followed by Batesburg-Leesville vs. Newberry and then Strom Thurmond vs. Brookland-Cayce in the nightcap.

    Other area teams will be on the road Friday and Saturday for jamborees.

    Fox Creek and North Augusta are both taking part in the Lexington County Sports-A-Rama on Friday at Lexington High School. Fox Creek is facing Pelion in the first quarter at 5:30 p.m., and North Augusta is facing River Bluff in the second quarter at 6:30 p.m.

    Midland Valley is playing in the Chapin Kickoff Classic on Friday at Chapin High School. The Mustangs will face Spring Valley in the second matchup of the evening, scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

    Blackville-Hilda will be in action at the Kershaw County Jamboree at Camden High School on Friday. The Fighting Hawks are facing the host Bulldogs in the final matchup of the evening, scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

    Williston-Elko will play in the Leon Maxwell Jamboree on Saturday at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. The Blue Devils will face Ridgeland in a matchup scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
