Fireworks stand supports local high school football team

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -- Ahead of the Fourth of July, one local fireworks stand is doing something special with its proceeds.

For eight years, Devin Bauer has run the TNT Fireworks stand near Highway 291 and Lakeside Lane across the street from Lakeside High School.

He is the Head Coach for Lakeside's high school's football team and his stand holds years of tradition.

"There's been three head coaches, and it has been passed down from each head coach," said Bauer.

100% of the stand's proceeds support the Lakeside High School's football team.

"Football is an expensive sport. It goes for team bonding meals and we just purchased new goalposts with it last year. It goes toward safety equipment, shoulder pads, knee pads and all that kind of stuff," said Bauer.

The stand is open until the Fourth of July and has any firework you might need to light up the holiday.

While fireworks sale and use are permitted in Stevens County and Airway Heights, it is banned in the City of Spokane and unincorporated areas of the county.

For those browsing the stands in Airway Heights, it is important to remember fireworks may only be lit on July 4 between 8 a.m. to midnight.

The Airway Heights Fire Department encourages everyone to take precautions over the holiday.

AHFD said children should never be allowed to handle or light fireworks and that families should be careful about where they set off fireworks with the current burn restrictions in place throughout the county.

"The wind will catch them and could blow them over any sort of distance. So, if you have an area of uncut grass that is tall and dry, and the firework debris could fall down into those areas, there's potential for ignition of that grassy material and we want to avoid that," said AHFD Deputy Chief Mike Makela.

Chief Makela also said it is important to discard fireworks in a bucket of water and to let them soak before throwing them away.

To support the Lakeside High School football team's firework stand, Devin Bauer's stand is located in the parking lot of Rosauers on Nine Mile Falls in Suncrest, across the street from Lakeside High School.
