It’s a tough day for fitness enthusiasts in Florida as a well-known gym chain is pulling out of the state. The New York Sports Club, previously known as Around the Clock Fitness, has announced the closure of three locations across Florida, affecting both the local fitness community and the employees.

The closures, set to take effect on August 31, will see the following gyms shut their doors for good:

    • Fort Myers: 9375 Six Mile Cypress Parkway
    • Fort Myers: 1755 Boy Scout Drive
    • Cape Coral: 1140 Ceitus Terrace

In total, 108 employees will be laid off as a result of these closures. Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, the gym chain has filed a notice with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, ensuring that support and assistance will be available for those impacted.

This move leaves the New York Sports Club with no remaining locations in Florida, marking a significant exit from the state’s fitness scene. If you’re a member or employee at one of these gyms, make sure to check in with the company for information on next steps and available resources.
