Hey foodies and diner lovers! It looks like the beloved Metro Diner in St. Petersburg, known for its hearty portions and Guy Fieri's endorsement, has hit a bump in the road. This popular spot, famous for its pancakes, fried chicken and waffles, and mouthwatering meatloaf, has had to temporarily shut its doors due to some serious issues flagged by a recent state inspection.

On July 16, 2024, inspectors from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation visited Metro Diner and discovered 10 violations. That’s right—10! Among the issues were some pretty concerning problems: a black/green mold-like substance in the ice machine, unwashed fruits and veggies mixed with ready-to-eat foods, and a door with a gap leading to the outside.

But it didn’t stop there. High-priority violations included the discovery of live roaches and flying insects, a stop-sale order because cold foods were held at too high a temperature, and hot foods being kept below the necessary 135 degrees. Yikes!

After these findings, the diner was shut down temporarily. However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. A follow-up inspection on July 17, 2024, found that while three violations remained, they were not considered an immediate threat to public health, allowing the diner to reopen its doors.

For those who haven’t been to this St. Petersburg location, it’s one of several Metro Diners across Florida that have gained a reputation for delicious comfort food and a friendly atmosphere. Patrons have given it rave reviews, with many praising the large portion sizes and classic diner fare. One reviewer, Sherlita, even raved about their French toast and steak bowl!

So, if you’re planning to visit the Metro Diner in St. Petersburg, it’s back open and ready to serve up those classic diner dishes. Just keep in mind, it might be a good idea to check the latest reviews or maybe give them a call to ensure everything’s running smoothly.

In the meantime, let’s hope the team at Metro Diner gets things back to tip-top shape. After all, every diner deserves a chance to cook up comfort food with a side of cleanliness!
