Not everyone might remember the days when drive-ins were the go-to spot for getting food “to go,” with car hops serving your order straight to your car. While many modern diners have moved on to drive-throughs, Sonic Drive-In still brings that nostalgic drive-in experience to customers. Unfortunately, the Sonic at 1321 W Jefferson Streetin Quincy recently found itself in hot water.

    What Went Wrong?

According to data from The Tallahassee Democrat, a recent inspection on July 26, 2024, uncovered 19 violations at the Quincy Sonic. Among the problems:

    • Basic Violations: Equipment and utensils were found "wet nesting," meaning they weren't dried properly. There was a greasy buildup on walls behind the fryer, a mold-like substance on a wall behind the hand washing sink, and black grease and food debris inside a microwave.
    • High-Priority Violations: The inspection also revealed flying insects and foods like cheese and hot dogs being kept at unsafe temperatures—above 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

Due to these issues, the restaurant was temporarily shut down to address the violations.

    What Happened Next?

A follow-up inspection on July 27th showed just one remaining violation, which wasn’t considered a significant health risk. Consequently, the restaurant was allowed to reopen.

Despite the challenges, Sonic Drive-In continues to be a popular choice for those craving a classic drive-in experience. Here’s hoping the Quincy location can clean up its act and continue serving its community with the quality and service that Sonic is known for.
