Location: 16462 NE 16th Avenue, North Miami Beach
Date Ordered Shut: August 15, 2024

Jennifer’s Cafeteria, located in North Miami Beach, has been temporarily shut down following an inspection that uncovered 35 serious violations. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation cited several critical issues during the inspection.

    Key Violations:

    • Presence of Non-Service Animals: A cat was found entering the premises where food and single-use items are stored. Cat litter, a bed, and food were observed around the location, with the cat repeatedly entering when the back door was open.
    • Moldy Food: A moldy orange was discovered on the display rack at the front counter, leading to a stop sale order.
    • Insect Infestation: Small flying insects were present in multiple areas: approximately 10 flies in the kitchen, 2 near the orange juice machine, 7 on the front counter, 1 on the dining room table, and 1 on a napkin holder.
    • Improper Food Cooling: Cooked tripe was not cooled properly. It was observed at 49°F when it should have been cooled from 135°F to 70°F within 2 hours and from 135°F to 41°F within 6 hours.
    • Non-Food-Grade Bags Used: Raw chicken was found stored in a reach-in freezer touching a non-food-grade thank you bag.
    • Improper Food Storage: Raw chicken was stored over raw pork in the cooler, violating proper food separation protocols. Containers of seasoning and soda bottles were also found on the floor.
    • Sanitation Issues: No chlorine chemical test kit was available for the three-compartment ware washing machine, and no soap was provided at the hand wash sink in the bathroom.
    • Standing Water and Other Concerns: Standing water was observed throughout the kitchen, and food was stored on the floor in unit 16460.

The cafeteria remained closed until these issues were addressed and the establishment meets health and safety standards.
