Monday's results: District semifinal baseball, boys lacrosse results

Ethan Wright delivered a walk-off single to score Logan Carr with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday to give Manchester a 2-1 win over Chippewa in a Division III district semifinal at Norwayne.

Wright also pitched the final three innings to get the win. He struck out six and allowed one hit and one walk.

Brady Johnson pitched the first six innings, struck out eight, walked one and limited Chippewa (17-11) to one run and four hits.

Johnson also scored Manchester’s first run when Giuseppe Yanik hit an RBI single in the first inning. Johnson reached base via an error.

Manchester’s Joel Johnston and Lucas Manley each had two hits.

"The kids just kept playing hard and getting after it," Manchester coach Shawn Johnston said. "They played together. Our pitching was fantastic. We had 10 hits, just not all together or when we needed them most.

"Chippewa was good. They have improved a lot as the season has gone on and they are very well coached. Our kids had each others’ back and they had mine when I made a coaching mistake. When they stick together and play their game, they can play with anyone. They play hard and know they represent the name and community that is on the front of their jerseys. It’s a tradition that passes on from one group to the next. I don’t want that tradition to ever graduate."

Chippewa’s Anderson Hatfield struck out 10 and allowed one earned run over 8⅓ innings. Corbin Marshall led the Chipps with three hits, and Isaiah Radebaugh scored Chippewa’s run in the fifth inning when Grant Johnson grounded out.

Manchester (15-7) will meet host Norwayne in a district final at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Norwayne defeated Canton Central Catholic 7-6 in eight innings in Monday’s other district semifinal.
