Former Cleveland outfielder Grady Sizemore has been given the prestigious and dubious title of interim manager of the Chicago White Sox.

The White Sox fired manager Pedro Grifol on Thursday .

Sizemore has to love the opportunity given there exist only 30 jobs at this level of professional competition in baseball. But, hey, as of this writing the White Sox — the "other" team in Chi-town — own a 28-89 record and tied the American League record for futility by losing 21 consecutive games.

Still, the powers that be in Chicago must see something in Sizemore, who only joined the organization this season after an internship with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season. He previously served as a special advisor in Cleveland in 2017.

However, the records for mediocrity are likely to continue to fall over the course of the season.

Sizemore played 10 years (eight in Cleveland) before injuries cut his career short. In that span he batted .265 with 518 RBIs and 150 home runs. He also had short-lived stops in Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Boston.

He was an All-Star three times and twice won the Gold Glove while patrolling center field in Cleveland.
