An Akron man convicted of the 1993 murder of a 23-year-old mother was denied parole, the Summit County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday.

The Ohio Parole Board denied parole in a 5-4 vote to Deonmond Gethers, 49, Tuesday roughly 31 years after he was convicted and sentenced to life for the murder of Ann Marie Cox.

He will have parole hearings about every five years per Ohio Senate Bill 256 , which provides parole eligibility for juvenile offenders. Gethers was 17 at the time of the crime.
