What needs to be done to prevent and solve violent crime in Akron? Share your thoughts

Northeast Ohio residents told us in the We Can Disagree project and in recent polling by the Center for Opinion and Market Research that policing and community safety are a priority for improving life in the region. Now, a new report by the Council of State Governments Justice Center shows Ohio — Akron and Cleveland in particular — among the worst for solving violent crimes.

Help us brainstorm solutions by joining others on the Polis app. We’re asking: What do we need to talk about that we’re not discussing to prevent and solve violent crimes in our community?

You can anonymously vote on the ideas proposed by others, as well as share your own answers. We'll see where Greater Akron residents agree — and where they agree to disagree.

To participate, go to https://pol.is/7p3mczvkkm or use the attached QR code and join the conversation.

We Can Disagree is a partnership among Akron Beacon Journal/BeaconJournal.com, Signal Akron , Ideastream Public Media and Fighting to Understand , a Northeast Ohio nonprofit with experience designing and holding difficult conversations.

The project, which began last month, uses an app called Polis to foster community conversation and find common ground.

Polis, which can be accessed from your cellphone or computer, regularly poses a new question to get the conversation started.

The Akron Bar Foundation and Akron Community Foundation are funding the project.
