    Who owns Kings Island, Cedar Point? A look at the amusement park group created in merger

    Two of the biggest theme parks in Ohio joined a much larger family a couple of months ago.

    Kings Island and Cedar Point now stand alongside parks like Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Over Texas as part of the new Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

    Did Six Flags buy Cedar Point? Who owns Kings Island?

    The new group, worth an estimated $8 billion, was formed by the merger of regional theme park giants Six Flags and Cedar Fair, USA TODAY reports, so technically one did not buy the other.

    When announcing the new group, Six Flags Entertainment called it a "merger of equals," according to a press release found on Yahoo! Finance . The new company now has 42 theme parks, water parks, and resort properties across the U.S., as well as Canada and Mexico, including Cedar Point and Kings Island.

    Who owns Six Flags Entertainment Corp.?

    Being a publicly traded company, Six Flags Entertainment (NYSE:FUN) is owned by its shareholders.

    According to Market Beat , the new company's largest shareholder is Goldman Sachs , an investment banking firm. It owns 7.8% of Six Flags Entertainment, or just over 4 million shares. It is followed by JPMorgan Chase & Co. (6.6%), UBS Group AG (5.9%) and Barclays PLC (4.5%). All of them are also banks.

    Before to the merger, 11 states had Six Flags parks and resort properties, in addition to parks in Montreal and Mexico City, USA TODAY previously reported.

    Where are the Cedar Fair locations?

    And, Cedar Fair parks were found in nine states and the Toronto area prior to the merger.

    Cedar Fair also boasted 11 accommodation offerings around the U.S., ranging from RV sites to hotels, USA TODAY previously reported.
