Win the turnover battle and you win football games.

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy has proven that adage correct the last two weeks.

After throwing five interceptions in week 2 vs. Lake Catholic , CVCA (1-2) forced five Woodridge (0-3) turnovers and ran away with a 28-0 win Friday at Lahoski Field.

"It was definitely a focus throughout the week," said CVCA quarterback Charley Levak. "Last Friday, I knew we had to make some changes after committing so many turnovers. I just came in with the mindset that it's going to be different this week."

It was different, as Levak was turnover-free, going 2-of-7 for 49 yards passing. He was most dangerous with his legs, as he led CVCA with 117 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He ran a 6-yard bootleg for a score at the end of the first quarter and 51-yard sweep for a TD in the second

In rainy conditions, CVCA played from a three-man T formation most of the game. The result was 327 yards rushing from eight different Royals.

"It's another tool in the toolbox, baby," said CVCA coach Nick Cook. "It's something we have and we'll go back to it when we need it. We use the phrase with our guys in these conditions of "positive ball control.'"

CVCA got a big night from running back Ryan Wiehe, who piled up 81 yards on just eight carries. Wiehe opened the fourth quarter with 44-yard TD run.

CVCA led 21-0 at halftime following a 1-yard touchdown plunge from Nick Schober with 28 seconds left in the half. The Royals' defense didn't allow Woodridge a first down in the first half.

It was a miserable night for Woodridge quarterbacks Rory Johnston and Gavin Lynch. Johnston went 2-of-8 for 5 yards with three interceptions, while Lynch was 2-of-6 for 50 yards and one pick. Woodridge also was held to minus-4 yards rushing due to bad snaps and fumbles.

Even Woodridge's best drive was foiled by a turnover. To open the second half, Lynch drove the Bulldogs to the CVCA 5, thanks to a pair of long passes to Andrew Stull. However, a high snap was recovered by CVCA's Nathan Cook to end the threat.

Here's how the game went down in live update.
