Three people, including a teen, were arrested Wednesday night when guns were found in their vehicle during a traffic stop, Akron police said.

Akron officers, who were patrolling at Copley and Diagonal roads around 10:50 p.m. found three guns in a car that was pulled over for a moving violation.

Police said the 22-year-old driver didn't have a valid driver’s license and was driving under suspension. The passengers were two males, 16 and 18 years old. All three were detained and during the search of the vehicle, officers recovered two handguns — both with extended magazines — and an AR-15-style pistol, all loaded.

The two adults were arrested and charged with weapons-related offenses. Both were later booked into the Summit County Jail. The teen was also arrested on a weapons charge and taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Akron police have recovered hundreds of guns so far this year

Akron police and other local and federal agencies say they are continuing to stay committed to reducing gun violence and helping to make the community safer.

In the first five months of this year, Akron police report that they have recovered 456 firearms by using various methods, including traffic and investigative stops.
