An 80-year-old Akron man was struck and killed Wednesday evening in an Acme Fresh Market parking lot in Coventry Township, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Donn Teeple was reportedly walking in a crosswalk at the Acme located at 3235 Manchester Road when he was struck by a Dodge Durango, Chief Medical Examiner Gary Guenther said.

Teeple was subsequently taken to Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday.

It is unknown whether the driver was identified or taken into custody. The Summit County Sheriff's Office, which is handling the investigation, could not be reached Friday.

"Our thoughts are with all involved," Acme Marketing Director Katie Swartz said Friday.

A GoFundMe was created for Teeple's funeral expenses following the incident.
