    Senior PGA Tour promises 5 days of fun starting Wednesday at Akron's Firestone Country Club

    Golf fans and those just looking for good time can find hours of entertainment with the five-day Kaulig Companies Championship, which brings in some of the top PGA golfers 50 and older, at Firestone Country Club in Akron starting Wednesday.

    The festivities begin with a pro-am game Wednesday. The tournament will kick off Thursday and last until Sunday, with activities for kids and adults alike running each day, including concerts, a kid's zone, a bourbon and cigar lounge and food truck options.

    The championship, which is one of dozens on the PGA Tour Champions schedule, will feature last year's champion Steve Stricker and other qualifiers at the course off 452 E. Warner Road.

    Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning will receive this year's Ambassador of Golf Award for his work in and out of the golf world Thursday evening.

    This is the second consecutive year Kaulig Companies, a Hudson-based business that works in sports, entertainment, home products, financial services and philanthropy, will sponsor the tournament.

    Last year, the tournament raised $1.23 million for over 40 nonprofit organizations, including Akron Children's Hospital and the LeBron James Family Foundation.

    Here's the schedule of events:

    Wednesday, July 10 : Pro-am day

    • Gates open: 7 a.m. with free shuttle running until 6:30 p.m.

    Thursday, July 11 : First round

    • Gates open: 9 a.m. with shuttle until 8:15 pm.
    • Tee times: From first and 10th tee at 9:50 a.m.
    • Musical performances: Anya Van Rose (indie rock artist from Canton), Benny Lava & the Guavas (soul, doo-wop and pop band from Akron) and Marc Lee Shannon (Akronite and former member of Michael Stanley Band) at 5 p.m. or after play ends

    Friday, July 12 : Second round, Folds of Honor Friday

    • Gates open: 9 a.m. with shuttle until 8:30 p.m.
    • Ceremonial tee shot by Tiffany Eckert, a Waterville resident and the surviving spouse of Army Sergeant Andrew Eckert: 9:30 a.m. at first tee
    • Tee times: 9:50 a.m.
    • Military appreciation concert: North Carolina country artist Kameron Marlowe with country openers Tim Dugger, Jocko Deal at 5 p.m. or after play ends
    • The tournament, through the nonprofit Folds of Honor , will award 13 children and spouses of fallen or disabled military and first responders $65,000 in scholarships.

    Saturday, July 13 : Third round

    • Gates open: 8:30 a.m. with shuttle until 8 p.m.
    • Tee times: 9:10 a.m.
    • Concerts: The Vindys (pop, soul and rock band from Youngstown), The Commonheart (medley band from Pittsburgh), The Pallay Boys (country rock band started in Cleveland) at 4 p.m. or after play ends

    Sunday, July 14: Final round

    • Gates open: 8:30 a.m. with shuttle until 4:30 p.m.
    • Tee times: 9:10 a.m
    • Trophy ceremony: Immediately after play ends

    The concerts will take place outside at the 40,000-plus-square-foot Kaulig Infinity Zone, which will also feature local food trucks, vendors, dog petting, lounges with alcohol sales and interactive activities. The area will be open Thursday through Sunday at the time gates open.

    How can I purchase a ticket for the Kaulig Companies Championship?

    When buying online, a ticket for all four days costs $75. The weekly clubhouse ticket, which allows people to watch the tournament on TVs and purchase food and drinks inside Firestone's clubhouse, is $200.

    A single ticket for July 10 is $10; clubhouse is $30. Single tickets for July 11-14 are $25 a piece; clubhouse is $60 each.

    Ticket purchasing at the gate will be more expensive.

    Children 18 years and younger can access the grounds for free with a paying adult, though they cannot enter hospitality areas without a paid ticket. Veterans, first responders and current military personnel can receive complimentary tickets.

    General parking at 2620 Harrington Road is free with a complimentary shuttle to the grounds.
