The Akron Police Department is asking for the public's help regarding a shooting that happened Saturday evening that injured three adults and one child.
It happened around 7:41 p.m. in the 800 block of Morningview Avenue.
According to police, the child is 4 years old, and the adults, all women, range in age from 33 to 52 years old. The boy was shot in the leg; one of the women was shot in the head and is listed in critical condition.
Police have arrested 25-year-old Delrico Carmona of Canton in connection with the shooting. He's been charged with four counts of felonious assault.
Authorities said they are following up on leads to determine what led up to the shooting.
City official responds
Akron City Councilwoman Sharon Connor lives across the street from where the shooting occurred; she said this is a typically quiet and safe neighborhood.
Connor said earlier that the day she and her husband were enjoying the sound of kids playing in the neighborhood, a few hours later, they heard people yelling, “call 911.”
"It was a family gathering, the family has gathered there for at least 10 years, always on the Saturday of Fourth of July weekend for a family picnic,” said Connor.
Connor said gun violence is not an Akron issue but a nationwide issue.
“Gone are the days of fistfights, the minute you’re upset you reach for your gun. So, we must address that,“ said Connor.
