    I-77 reopened after dump truck flips, spills gravel in roadway

    AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Interstate 77 South in Akron is officially fully reopened Saturday after a dump truck rolled over according to the Ohio Department of Transportation

    According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol , a dump truck rolled over on I-77 northbound near milepost 137 shortly after 11 a.m. The road wouldn’t be fully cleared until about 6 p.m.

    According to the release, the truck was driving north on I-77 when it hit a concrete barrier wall and then flipped over the wall, rolling into the southbound lanes of I-77. It then caught on fire.

    During the crash, the dump truck spilled “several tons of gravel” onto the I-77 South roadway. See a video from the cleanup scene courtesy FOX 8 viewer Nicholas Matheny.

    “Extensive clean-up efforts [were done] by The Kenmore Construction Company and Johnny’s Towing,” the release said.

    The driver of the dump truck was able to be freed with assistance from the Bath Fire Department, OSHP said. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with minor injuries.
