A video circulating social media allegedly showing Akron officers forcefully arresting a person is being investigated, Akron Police Sergeant Mike Murphy said Saturday.

The 14-second video taken by a witness shows what appears to be two officers struggling with a person on the ground in the front yard of a home in South Akron.

One officer punches the person in the head several times. The person can be heard yelling in pain throughout the duration of the video.

"Put your hands down," one officer can be heard saying.

The video, which was circulating on social media, was reposted on X by the user @ComradeOhio, who did not return a request for comment.

"We've recently become aware of the video circulating on social media," Murphy said. "This incident is currently being investigated to determine if this incident falls within the guidelines outlined in our use of force procedure."

The circumstances surrounding the arrest were not immediately clear Saturday.
