A 19-year-old Akron man will serve eight to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to causing a fiery crash that left one person dead and two injured, including himself.
Miguel Gipson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, vehicular assault, receiving stolen property and attempted failure to comply, which was amended from failure to comply with a police officer, according to Summit County Common Pleas Bailiff Amanda Brown.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Alison McCarty sentenced Gipson on Thursday, four days before he was scheduled to appear for a jury trial.
Deadly crash kills one
Gipson was spotted by Akron police on Aug. 29 at around 11:30 p.m. driving at a high rate of speed north on Kelly Avenue in a red Kia Forte. Police began to chase but called it off due to the high speed.
The vehicle, driven by Gipson, continued north until it rear-ended another vehicle, struck a pole and caught fire at Kelly Avenue and Third Avenue.

Two 18-year-olds were in the Kia at the time. Stephonne Jackson of Akron was pronounced dead at the hospital. Gipson and the second 18-year-old were hospitalized.
The driver who was rear-ended was not injured. Police determined the red Kia Forte was stolen from a Canton resident.
Police were initially open to the possibility that the crash and a nearby shooting that left a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the face were connected. They later determined there was no connection.
