Forget the feet and tails. This wine is simply Gorgeous. Thistledown Wine Company’s refreshing and aromatic white wine from Australia has made its way to Northeast Ohio just in time to help us beat the summer heat.
This $17.99 screw cap Aussie white is made from a blend of 94% Grenache blanc and 6% Chardonnay and aged in concrete and used French oak barrels. If you are wondering, Grenache Blanc is a white grape that’s related to the red Grenache grape.
You will love the ripe pear and orange blossom notes along with the creamy mouthfeel that has you begging for your next sip. I had a glass with a few slices of Citterio's $9 mini mortadella loaf from Beau’s Market in Copley.
As luck would have it, my favorite sister shipped me an assortment of deliciousness from Murray’s Cheese in New York City. We had a glass of wine with slices of Selles Sur Cher, a French goat cheese covered in vegetable ash. Trust me, this cheese is fabulous. Send me an email if you happen to find something similar locally.
Castelvetrano olives, with their buttery flavor, were great to snack on while sipping this wine and preparing my shrimp skewers for the barbie. A nice summer salad with fresh cucumber, tomatoes and onions dressed with a little oil and vinegar worked well with this tasty pour from down under.
Sometimes I get a little too excited about these food and wine pairings. The order of shrimp and grits I picked up from the Valley Cafe on my way home from the Market District was all I really needed to do. It was mighty tasty and paired amazingly well the carry out order.
It's always nice when something sweet compliments the wine you are drinking. I found that a piece of Italian lemon torrone was the perfect way to finish .
Buy this wine at Beau’s Market in Copley, Krieger’s Market in Cuyahoga Falls, Crave in Akron, Buehler’s in Canton, HomeBuys in North Canton, North End in Hudson and Mustard Seed Market in Montrose.
