    Mid-American Conference football media day: Miami picked by coaches to win MAC title

    CANTON — Reigning Mid-American Conference football champion Miami of Ohio is the team to beat entering the 2024 season.

    MAC football coaches compiled a preseason poll Friday at the league's media day at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and tabbed Miami as the No. 1 team. The RedHawks received nine of the 12 first-place votes from coaches.

    Akron was predicted to finish 11th and Kent State 12th and last.

    Toledo was picked to finish second with three first-place votes.

    Miami was picked by 10 coaches to win the MAC championship game in December in Detroit and Toledo was selected by two coaches to win the league's final.

    The Rockets beat the RedHawks 21-17 in a regular-season game last season on Oct. 21 at Miami. The RedHawks returned the favor with a 23-14 win in the MAC championship on Dec. 2.

    Bowling Green and Northern Illinois tied for third in the poll.

    Ohio was picked to finish fifth, Eastern Michigan sixth, Western Michigan seventh, Central Michigan eighth, Ball State ninth and Buffalo 10th.
